Incorporated as a private company, VISION traces its roots among the pioneers of high quality and socially responsible football stitching in Sialkot. As an office bearing member of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the company has provided leadership in promoting business integrity within Sialkot’s business community, being regularly involved in community uplift and promoting high work place standards. Apart from participating in the follow-up on the Atlanta agreement, VISION advocates active engagement with stake holders in government, labour, multilateral and citizen sector organizations, and now building capacity to act at the community level. Being among the first to have an independent, nationally federated labour union, VISION encourages best practices among more than 50 local vendors and suppliers. In addition to worker safety, VISION’s commitment to professional horizons incorporates a fair, transparent and equitable system for worker remuneration. VISION employs around 300 permanent staff and works with 96 contractors in its production of soccer balls, including 110 line workers. Remuneration conforms to the minimum levels set by the Government of Punjab, Department of Labor, Minimum Wage Board, at PKR 6,000 per month. However, VISION uses this as a baseline to calculate remuneration on a regularly updated ‘basic need formula’ that accounts for a basket of commodities, average family size and direct spending of food, discretionary income etc, in line with the official Household Integrated Economic Survey. Central to VISION’s commitment to professionalism is to ensure safety of all workers. High values of Health, Safety and Environmental standards are set by VISION, including fire and emergency risk mitigation and response measures, and use of protective equipment. As a completely non-negotiable rule, all VISION workers, permanent or contractual, are above the age of 18. VISION’s perspective on workplace conditions recognizes the importance of the development, review and dissemination of key policies on worker safety and standards. The company remains uncompromising in its commitment to regular validation of standards and their implementation by management and independent verifiers. Even where local law is relatively lax, VISION complies with more stringent, transparent and independently audited standards.
